Did you ever attend a live show at a theatre and wonder what goes on behind the scenes, or what is the history of this theatre?
Well, wonder no more! The Winter Team has
planned a tour of the historic Ritz Theatre in Oaklyn, followed by an optional lunch at nearby Mulligan’s Irish Pub.
The founder and head of the Ritz organization, Bruce Curless, will conduct a tour of the Ritz theatre for our Club .
The Ritz Theatre is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Intimate and ornamental, the 334-seat Ritz is the only theater in the area still resplendent in its original decor. The architecture is Greek revival with 25-foot-high neo-classical canvas murals on the auditorium walls, gilt-trimmed
columns, and classic carved balustrades.
In 1927 the Ritz opened as a vaudeville and movie house. In 1985 a group of artists, led by Bruce Curless, was organized to bring live, quality, professional productions to the Ritz
stage and they are still going strong.
Let’s meet in the lobby of the Ritz by 12:30 PM.
We ask everyone to contribute a $5 donation the Ritz Theatre. We will collect your donation
at the Ritz and give it to Bruce to help his organization continue their excellent work.
After the tour, probably between 2 to 2:30, the Winter Team will host an optional luncheon at the reasonably-priced Mulligan's Grill, also located in Oaklyn within walking distance of the Ritz.
